Kindergarten Kid

Bethany started Kindi yesterday and she was dressed with her shoes on the wrong feet one hour before we had to go, she was THAT excited!

She attends Monday, Tuesday and Thursday afternoons, 12.45pm to 3.15pm. Its a gorgeous little place, located on an American looking really long sloping street in an aptly named suburb called Brooklyn.

Creative Learning is how the 3-4 year olds are taught, there are various tables setup with painting, drawing, making, cutting etc. There are areas to build, there is a separate area to read books, and there is a fantastic little 'house' which has a full kitchen, bed, table and chairs and even babies!

Attached to this is the dress up and show area and there is a little stage. Outside there is a HUGE sandpit area and just around from that a water play area. Then just next to that a huge play area with climbing frames, slides, swings etc. So much stuff!

The kids have free play time when they come in, then after an hour they all sit and have mat time. Stories are told and songs are sung. They share fruit and then head off to play again. Once they get into the 4-5 sessions they start to learn more and have more structured activities.

However quite daunting is the 'Woodwork Area'. Where adult sized hammers, saws, screwdrivers, nails and mallets are what the kids get to play with. All I can say is that you should have seen my face when I watched two boys hack away at the smallest piece of wood ever with the two huge saws! Tell you what, the 3 year olds here are tough cookies!

Anyway, she had the best time and the only time she cried was when we had to leave!! She even woke up from her sleep (that she never normally has) talking about it...
