The Personal Touch

Going back to our first trip to New Zealand in December 2005, we saw that NZ drivers had a bit more freedom over their choice of number plates. Private plates here are quite open, and can be any alphanumeric combination you like, as long as it's not deemed offensive of course.

We ordered our plate through Plates.co.nz several months ago, and have only now got round to sorting them out. Personalised Plates Ltd. are the sole licensed reseller/distributor of registration plates in New Zealand, and after a few amusing moments searching their database for rude and somewhat childish options (well, I did anyway!), we settled on one that meant something to us.

NZ Land Transport takes a slightly different approach to the UK DVLA, in that the plates are made in 1 place, and under their control. The UK is tightening up on the manufacture of plates to stop cloning, by having to provide the V5 at shops before they'll produce them, but that's not enforced all over.

Anyway, 6 months after ordering, here's the result!
