Grandad Steve is well and truly settled, he even muttered his first 'eh?' (pronounced 'ay?') after a sentence today!!
So it's been a busy few days, which is only natural considering the amount of things to do. I haven't been too well sadly so have had a few miserable days but have been there trying to enjoy the fun as much as I could!
Wednesday morning Michael took Grandad and Bethany out to our most favourite beach, they have a brilliant time in the amazing sunshine at the red rocks beach along from Owhiro Bay.
On the afternoon I managed to pull myself together and we headed off to the city, we parked at the Lady Norwood Rose Gardens and took a stroll around. We headed into the Begonia House and were utterly amazed by the stunning plants and the fact so much work is done here everyday to keep this place so amazing beautiful.
It was then time for a coffee (and an ice-cream for madam!) and we were then on our way again. We wandered down through the Bolton Street Memorial Park(remember this is one of our favourite city walks) and down to the Parliament buildings.
We then decided to take a look inside and ended up on the formal tour of the parliament buildings. We were off to a good start when we were asked where we were from and when we said 'we live here' the lady said 'ah, I will mark you down as kiwis'!
The tour was actually very good and despite my initial eye rolling when the tour guide said 'its an hour for the tour', it seems to pass quickly and we even got to sit in the public gallery of 'The House of Representatives' and listen to the banter!
We finished our day with a super duper BBQ - only right in the wonderful sunshine!!
Today was a poor day weather wise, but it didn't dampen our spirits. We enjoyed a wonderful waffle breakfast (if I do say so myself) and we then headed out to Junglerama.
This wouldn't normally be our first choice destination but Bethany has been so amazing brilliant the last few days (especially on what I can only imagine was the most boring event ever of the Parliament tour) that we felt it was only right to give her some freedom.
After a good old run around we headed towards the city and down to Te Papa. We were sadly amazed to see a 'car park full' sign and we wondered how it could be so busy, but after parking in Courtenay we found out it was for a huge conference that was being held and not visitors to Te Papa as it would have been the first time we had seen it full!
We literally trawled every floor, visiting everywhere and everything, and eventually stopping off for some lunch in the wonderful cafe. I absolutely love the amazing sculptures and just cant help to take pictures of everything!
I think my favourite part was winding up the guy serving the food in the cafe, as he asked about where we were from, and then he announced to Michael that Bethany looked like him, I donned a look of death and muttered to him that he had now put his foot in it, and his little face dropped, we left him to back track for a few seconds...cruel I know, but oh so much fun too.
The rest of the museum tour was good, so much to see, wonderful people to meet (we bumped into Chez Lee!) and fantastic memories for Grandad to keep forever...
