Busy Few Days

We have had a busy few days, going here, there and everywhere. It's strange that Steve has been here for over a week now, sadly the time has flown like it always does when we have guests. Not to let that worry us we made sure we spent the last few days making the most of what Wellington has to offer.

Friday we all trundled along to watch Bethany at her swimming lessons, which she was fantastic at as always. It still amazed me that at 3 she goes into the pool by herself!

Afterwards we emerged to blazing sunshine so we headed to Makara Beach. The walk there is always so phenomenal. Crystal clear sea, beautiful blue skies and utterly amazing views towards the South Island (after one heck of a hike!) made for a fantastic afternoon.

Saturday was quieter. Poor little Bethany wasn't too well as she must have caught what myself and Michael had. So Michael took Steve over the road to our nature reserve where they had a walk. The afternoon was filled with showing Steve the hum-drum of our normal life and going to the supermarket!!

However Michael and Steve did attend a football match - Wellington Phoenix vs. Central Coast Mariners, a post to follow from him about that!

Sunday was again a beautiful day, temperatures reaching an scorching 19 degrees for this time of the year. We visited the stunning Karori Wildlife Sanctuary, where we took a ride on the Electric Boat, walked through the ground and saw Tuatara, Tui and Kākā, and finished the walk back with a trip into the Weta caves...!!

Today has been a public holiday here, for Labour Day. We were graced with amazing weather again and we started our day by taking Steve to the second of the three simply stunning view points in Wellington - Mount Victoria. The panoramic views are just brilliant, the 'ooh's' and 'aarhh's' from a bus tour described it all!

Any bank holiday in Wellington always means Te Papa has something awesome to show everyone. This weekend has been no different with the new exhibition opening - Tangata o le Moana. It is an exhibition about the Pacific people of New Zealand, their journey to Aotearoa many years ago and their life here today.

Throughout Te Papa there were the most brilliant shows from the Pacific Festival, we watched Kafikasi Family Group perform Tuvalu song and dance, and, Island Summer - Pos Mavaega’s 25-piece guitar orchestra who's amazing music was dedicated to the first migrant families who came from Samoa and brought with them their beliefs, customs, and music.

On the afternoon we made our way to the last of the unbelievable viewing points in Wellington, and let Steve soak up the utterly stunning views from Wrights Hill.

Breath taking views and breath taking performances today, that's what Wellington is all about.
