New Year Camping Trip - Finale!

The sun shone, the birds sang and we awoke to the sound of happy voices in camp. It was a gorgeous New Years Day, everyone emerged smiling and ever so content. Well apart from those with a hangover of course!

The day started the way any day should - with bacon sandwiches!

So the main part of the day was just spent relaxing. We hung out at camp for a while and then we headed to the beach with Stef, Rich, Tony, Denyse and the kids and had the loveliest time. Tony flew his kite and not only could have nearly killed someone with it (as it was quite windy) but when it did come down, it came down hard, never to fly again!

Stef and Denyse were dressed like Baywatch babes, yet paddled around in the water like tadpoles, whilst the big boys ventured out further. They went out really far, catching waves and doing some body boarding. The girls enjoyed the time too making sandcastles and running in and out of the water. Bethany then showed her skills too and absolutely loved body boarding on the smaller waves. I think we may have found something she really likes!

Back at camp that afternoon it was all quiet. I think the night before had taken it's toll, making some of the ladies in camp drink Milo!! I mean, my goodness.

Later that night the boys and girls separated and we played games. The boys setup a poker table and the girls ventured forth with a game called Dirty Minds which was meant to act as light entertainment with some easy laughs. Five minutes in and we were all scratching our heads - it was really hard!

Soon we were all played out and it was time for bed, we were all shattered.

However sleep wasn't meant for some of us. Just as I got into bed I could hear Sammy crying in distress in the next tent with Jo and Lewi trying to console her. After I little while I ventured out to see what was happening. Poor Sammy wasn't well at all, so we headed to Denyse, who is a nurse, for advice. After Denyse checked her out (how grateful are we to have her on site), she recommended they take her off to the hospital to be checked out.

As it was Jo and Lewi's van was behind the tents we offered our car. Jo really wanted to go too but didn't want to leave Davey so I said I would stay and watch him. So off they went, I then went and got into their bed so I could be near Davey. The next thing I know Lewi is waking me up, close to 3am. Poor guys, Sammy had Gastroenteritis. Lewi thought best after the hospital to take them Jo and Sammy home and so Lewi did a good two hours driving that night.

The news the next morning was a little better, Sammy although still ill was getting better and responding to medicine. Poor Lewi though had to concentrate to take the tent down and pack up all by himself on only 3 hours sleep. But he did fantastically, a true pro.

So despite that little hiccup on the last night the time couldn't have been any better. I felt really quite sad to be packing up and could have quite happily gone an extra few nights. The experience was just unreal. Special moments that stay with you forever - this certainly will.

As we packed up the tent a little rabbit hopped by to see what was going on. A Praying Mantis was discovered inside our tent and people buzzed around getting ready to head home. Of course the humour never stopped and the traffic cone came into play again, this time terrorising Stef and Rich!

So in case you didn't get the message: IT WAS AWESOME!!

Thank you dearest friends, never could anything have been more magical.
