As you know Bethany has made a gorgeous little best friend, and the perk for me is that I have also made a fantastic friend in her mammy.
Jo is a lovely lady, very much like me which is strange for a kiwi, to speak her mind, be very opinionated and open in discussion.
We have had some good times together over the last few weeks with us spending a night at their house having a BBQ, getting to know Jo, Jonathan, Alex and Ruby better. You couldn't ask for more generous caring people who openly have the motto 'pleasure in giving'.
On Friday Jo kindly took us over to The Short Straw Cafe after Kindy for lunch. A lovely little place up in Whiteman's Valley (yes that really is a real suburb name!) which is Wellington's only cafe made from bales of straw!
It was lovely, a gorgeous outdoor area for children to play in and for parents to sit and relax by, with rolling valley views and all you expect from a good old dose of nature. I was told that a friend had rang them once to check they were child friendly and the reply was "well we are adult friendly!" and rightly so, the place is built for kids to have a good time.
Service was prompt and food was gorgeous, definitely somewhere we will be going again.
Of course the highlight of the day for me was a blast from the past - did you ever watch Home and Away? Remember Alf Stewart? Well Jo was trying to chase a wasp from the table and she told it to 'rack off'....honestly I laughed, I was waiting for a follow up of 'you flamin' galah'!!!!
The day turned into a night and I ended up rolling round to Jo's house at 3.30pm and we started the wine, by 6pm the men had joined us and we were all on the wine!A simple invitation of 'stay for dinner, I will make a quick pizza' turned into a full on gourmet meal, with the most posh pizza's ever!!
Fantastic having neighbours, even better having them as friends, getting that Friday feeling, making the most of it AND being able to walk home after 'a few' - well it doesnt get much better than that!!
